Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I hire a sleep consultant?

Most families already know what they want to change - the challenge is knowing how to do it in a way that’s realistic, consistent, and sustainable.

Working with a sleep consultant provides three key things:
A clear, personalized plan that takes the guesswork out of sleep and fits your child, your values, and your daily life
Accountability and structure, so you’re not constantly second-guessing or changing course
Emotional support throughout the process, especially during moments of uncertainty or fatigue.

Sleep challenges can feel overwhelming when you’re in them. My role is to guide you with clarity, reassurance, and evidence-based strategies so you don’t have to navigate it alone.

What ages do you work with?

I work with families across all ages, from newborns through early childhood.

Newborns (under ~10 weeks): I recommend an Ask Me Anything call focused on sleep shaping, routines, and expectations during the newborn phase. At this age, the goal is gentle guidance and foundations - not formal sleep training.
Babies 10 weeks and older: I typically recommend my 2-Week Sleep Support Package, which includes a personalized plan and hands-on coaching to support independent sleep.

If you’re unsure what’s appropriate for your child’s age, I’m always happy to help you decide.

Do I have to do "Cry It Out"?

No — unless it’s something you intentionally choose.

“Cry It Out” refers to the Extinction Method, which is one of many evidence-based sleep training approaches. It is safe and effective, but  while some families are comfortable with it, others are not — and that’s completely okay.

However, there is no such thing as a truly no-cry sleep training method, but there are many ways to minimize crying and support your child through change. Together, we’ll reframe what crying means, talk honestly about expectations, and choose an approach that aligns with your comfort level and goals.

Which sleep training method do you use?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to sleep.

I work with families to explore age-appropriate, evidence-based options, then tailor a plan based on:
• Your child’s age, temperament, and development
• Your parenting style and comfort level
• Your goals and family dynamics

My role is to guide you through the options, explain the pros and cons, and help you choose a method that feels both effective and sustainable for your family.

Will I have to re-sleep train my child after every illness or regression?

Sleep is not linear — there will always be better nights and harder ones.

That said, when sleep training is done thoughtfully and correctly, you should never need to start from scratch. The goal is not perfection, but confidence. You’ll understand why sleep may temporarily shift and have the tools to gently get things back on track after disruptions like illness, travel, or developmental changes.

Will I have to stop feeding my child overnight in order to sleep train?

No. Sleep training and night weaning are not the same thing.

Sleep training focuses on helping your child fall asleep independently and return to sleep independently between sleep cycles. Overnight feeds can still be developmentally appropriate, especially for younger babies.

If you’re interested in incorporating night-weaning strategies, we can absolutely discuss that — but it is never required as part of sleep training.

How long will it take to see results?

This is dependent on the age and current sleep habits of your child (older children often take a bit longer to train) as well as how consistent you are with applying our sleep training plan. Many families see meaningful improvements within days, with consistency over time.
